Food Access
Part of the BCHE's work is to ensure that everyone has access to healthier foods, especially in neighborhoods where healthy foods are already tough to come across. Often referred to as “food deserts,” these areas are hit especially hard during trying times.

Indoor Food Production
In collaboration with the NY Power Authority, Buffalo Go Green and NeuWater Assoc., a new vertical farm is in a 40-foot-long shipping container at Buffalo Go Green’s Zenner Street urban farm. The new vertical farm is growing vegetables and herbs year-round without soil. Buffalo Go Green oversees community training on the farm, teaching hydroponic gardening, sustainability and nutrition. The New York Power Authority funded the $300,000 investment, and the Buffalo Center for Health Equity owns and maintains the container farm and is offering agricultural community programming as well.
