Men’s Mental Health
This program provides emotional safe spaces for men to express difficult subject matter related to physical and mental health.
The mission of Buffalo Center for Health Equity's Men's Health Initiative is to empower individuals and strengthen our community through comprehensive health and wellness programs. At BCHE, we believe in fostering an environment where everyone has the opportunity to thrive physically, mentally, and socially.
Our Men’s Empowerment Program, launched in spring of 2023 epitomizes our commitment to community empowerment. This transformative initiative is designed to support men in their journey toward personal growth and community engagement. Twice a month, our Open Group sessions bring participants together for dynamic discussions on essential topics such as financial literacy, mental health wellness, and healthy relationships. These sessions not only provide valuable knowledge but also create a space for men to share experiences, offer mutual support, and build lasting connections.
Whether it's exploring physical fitness, mastering home maintenance, or learning the nuances of meditation and mindfulness, our workshops are designed to equip men with the tools and confidence to lead fulfilling lives.
Each session at BCHE begins with a warm welcome and communal meal, fostering a sense of belonging and community. Our dedicated staff from BCHE and Voice Buffalo are on hand to provide updates, share opportunities, and ensure that every participant feels supported and valued.
At the Buffalo Center for Health Equity, we are a community hub where individuals come together to learn, grow, and uplift one another. Join us in our mission to create a healthier, more equitable Buffalo, where every individual has the chance to succeed and contribute to the well-being of our community.
The Healing Frequency: Music, Mental Health & The Art of Sound, an initiative of the Buffalo Center for Health Equity.
The Healing Frequency uses music as a bridge to mental wellness and community connection—creating safe, supportive spaces where conversations about trauma, loss, and healthy masculinity can take place, particularly among men of color, a group that has historically been discouraged from seeking emotional support. Participation in the program is free and open to the public, with musicians prioritized among the men who take part.
Through both in-person and virtual sessions, participants engage in honest dialogue, collective healing, and creative expression guided by the restorative power of sound.
In 2026 Healing Frequency will commence with its opening initiative. A performance as part of the “Art of Jazz” series at the AKG Museum.
